Comments from LWL Participants
The caliber and course materials and coaches/consultants are the highest I have ever seen in professional leadership development. I have sponsored probably 30 managers through the Leading Without Limits® program and another 40 or more senior staff in additional programs. I have yet to have anyone come back and say it wasn't a tremendous value add for them in their role and in their career. The programs are consistently of the highest quality. Sue Flautt, Managing Director, QOS, Kaiser Permanente
The programs have a certain interactive quality that makes them much different and better than other programs. I felt like the goals were clear and we got down to business. Kimberly Kupiecki, SVP, AR-Edelman.
Denise has a rare gift for bringing together people and processes in a way that changes lives. Not only are her programs powerful, but the women she attracts are the type you hope will be in your life forever. Renee Dineen, Associate Director, Vacaville Learning Team, Genentech
The Leading Without Limits and Sedona programs changed my life in a profound way. They engaged my heart and mind in a meaningful exploration of what was really important to me to move forward with how I wanted to 'show up' in my life. Maura McGinnity, Director, Office of Development, Stanford University.
A Competency-Based Approach
Leading Without Limits is based on the competencies required of outstanding leadership for any individual. Before the program begins, we ask our participants to rate themselves on a 7-point scale in each of the 6 core content areas for (1) level of knowledge and (2) level of competency. LWL is designed to increase both knowledge and competency by at least 2 points as judged by the participant and two people she has designated to observe her over the course of the 6 months.
Core Content
(Request a full description of these content areas)
12 Live Interactive Webinars
There is a two-week get-acquainted and goal-setting process that happens on line followed by 12 interactive webinars, two in each month of the program. We use Cisco's WebEx advanced training webinar tool. The presenter is "live" on screen as are any materials that are being discussed in the moment. Participants can be put into small break out groups at any time during the webinar to discuss cases and content, then come back to the large group and report out. The presenter can "visit" each of these "rooms" just as if everyone was in a live presentation. Participants can be unmuted for the main call discussions as well for live Q&A. Leaders can be in any part of the world and feel like they're all in the same room. The webinar leader combines short presentations with in-depth group discussion of application of the learning from content, articles and cases, with interactive exercises, and discussion of application to the leaders' business / leadership situations.
Self-Paced e-Learning
In between each webinar session, leaders link to our site to prepare at their own pace using our e-learning content. By learning on their own, leaders are ready for the webinar presentations and small-group breakout sessions mentioned above. For each of the 6 core content areas, an expert coach and facilitator takes leaders through 3 to 5 short video tracks that bring the program's content to life. Each content area has a downloadable guide with program materials, cases, checklists and, if applicable, 1 or 2 electronic worksheets. The leader does the work when she chooses, for however long she wants, and at a time that fits with her busy work schedule. The leader can jump ahead if a specific leadership challenge comes up where the content in a future module would be best viewed and applied in the moment.
Peer Consulting
Peer Consulting supports the application of the core leadership skills component. Leaders meet in pairs or trios once per month for an hour by phone (or in person if they're in the same location) to go over the month's content and how it applies to their own situations. These peer meetings offer discussion, insightful feedback, advice, and mentoring that only those who are in the process of change themselves can offer.
The discipline of the regular group meetings plus my mastermind partner kept me focused. I wouldn't have reached my goals without this. Diana Finucane, Director HR/Benefits, Applied Materials
I would strongly encourage participation in a small master mind group for the many benefits you'll get toward developing your leadership. Michelle Garrison, Group Director, Corporate Applications, Synopsys
Personality Styles Assessment
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) from Consulting Psychologists Press (www.cpp.com). The MBTI, Step II is a self-report instrument taken on-line that gives leaders a wealth of information on how to take full advantage of their natural leadership abilities and expand the personal resources needed to manage the mental demands of working in an organization. The leader receives a custom expanded interpretative report. We include the booklets, Introduction to Type and Teams and an invaluable development tool, YOU, Being More Effective in Your MBTI® Type, published by Lominger International.
Skills Assessments
LWL offers additional assessments in 5 of the 6 competency areas: (1) The Managerial Styles Questionnaire from the Hay Group (read more about this assessment here), and our 4 proprietary assessments - (2) Personal Brand assessment covering Value, Attitude, Presence/Packaging, and Positioning; (3) Power Assessment that indicates power levels in their 6 sources of power; (4) Influence Matters assessment measuring knowledge and skills in 4 influence mastery areas; and (5) Team Effectivness assessment which gives the leader a clear idea of how healthy her team is now.
Articles and Cases
We supplement the learning with 6-8 current Harvard Business Review articles pertaining to the leadership core content. And we add our own case studies.
Optional Individual Coaching
Individual leadership coaching is offered and can be purchased in 3-hour packages for a total of 6 hours over the course of the program. Coaching assists in pinpointing and strengthening the leadership skills and competencies taught in the program and positions leaders to make significant contributions to the organization and great strides in their own professional growth. Additional cost depends on whether the leader chooses one or 2 3-hour packages at the special price for this program of either $900 (for 3) or $1800 (for 6 sessions).
Optional 360 Leadership Assessment
The on-line Leadership Effectiveness Analysis® (LEA) 360 from Management Research Group, a global leadership research and development organization, measures 22 leadership practices grouped under six core areas of leadership: Vision, Followership, Implementing the Vision, Following Through, Achieving Results, and Team Playing. For leaders at any level who are managing others. Additional cost is $400.
